“Treasures of Tradition: A Dhanteras Reflection”

Dhanteras has always held a special place in my heart, not just as a festival, but as a time to reflect on family traditions and the values we cherish. Growing up, my grandmother would gather us around her as she shared stories about the significance of this day. I remember her telling us how Dhanteras marks the beginning of Diwali and is dedicated to Lord Dhanvantari, the deity of health and medicine.

One year, as we prepared for the festivities, my grandmother gifted me a small, intricately designed silver coin of Dhanvantari. She explained that it symbolized good health and prosperity. I felt an overwhelming sense of responsibility to cherish it, understanding that it wasn’t just an ornament but a connection to our family’s history and hopes for the future.

On the eve of Dhanteras, we would clean our home, ensuring that we welcomed prosperity with open arms. This ritual taught me the importance of clearing out the old to make space for the new, both materially and spiritually. As the festival unfolded, we lit diyas and rang in the joy of
