In 1965, while I was a medical student and a budding short story writer, I had the profound opportunity to visit Shantiniketan — a place that had long been a beacon of creativity and intellectual freedom. Having immersed myself in the works of Ravindranath Tagore, especially Gitanjali, his words had become more than just poetry to me; they were a source of deep spiritual and emotional connection.
Walking through the serene pathways of Shantiniketan, where Tagore himself once wandered, I felt as though I was stepping into the very heart of his creative soul. The simplicity of the surroundings, the rustling of trees, and the quiet hum of nature seemed to echo the essence of his literary masterpieces. Every corner of Shantiniketan felt alive with the energy of learning, art, and exploration — a world Tagore envisioned and brought to life through his genius.
