One chilly evening, Amara walked down the bustling city street, her mind consumed with the pressures of work, bills, and the unrelenting demands of her daily routine. She had learned to tune out the noise of others’ lives — a defense mechanism, a way to keep her head above water.

Rushing home through a crowded subway station, Amara noticed an elderly woman sitting alone on a bench, her gaze distant and weary. People streamed past without a second glance, wrapped up in their own worlds. Something about the woman’s expression — a mix of sadness and quiet strength — stirred something within Amara, but she quickly pushed it aside and hurried along.

But as she reached the escalator, Amara felt an unusual tug at her heart. Her thoughts drifted back to her own grandmother, who had raised her with boundless love. In that instant, she saw her grandmother’s face in the woman’s, and without thinking, she turned back.
