Ugadi Panchangam: Your Guide to the Auspicious Telugu New Year

One of the integral parts of Ugadi festivities is the Ugadi Panchangam, a traditional almanack that holds significant importance in determining the astrological aspects, religious rituals, and auspicious timings for the year ahead.

What is Ugadi Panchangam?

The term “Panchangam” refers to a Hindu calendar and almanack that provides comprehensive astrological and astronomical information. During Ugadi, a special Panchangam is prepared specifically for the upcoming year. This Panchangam contains crucial details such as:

1. Tithi( Lunar Day): The lunar phase on the day of Ugadi and throughout the year.

2. Nakshatras(Lunar Mansions): The position of the moon to the stars and constellations

3. Yogas and Karanas: Specific combinations of the moon and other celestial bodies that influence auspicious timings for various activities

4. Rahukalam, Yamagandam, Gulikakalam: Inauspicious timings to be avoided for important tasks

5. Festivals and important dates: Details about upcoming festivals, fasting days, and significant events based on the lunar calendar.

The Ugadi Panchangam is consulted by priests, astrologers, and households to plan religious ceremonies, auspicious events like weddings or housewarmings, and other important activities throughout the year. It guides individuals on the most favourable timings for commencing new ventures, conducting rituals, and seeking blessings for prosperity and well-being.

The insights provided by the Ugadi Panchangam help individuals align their actions with cosmic rhythms and divine blessings. It fosters a sense of harmony and balance in life, emphasizing the importance of timing and intention.

Meals are then first offered to the gods. The rest of the day is spent visiting temples, offering prayers and celebrating with family and friends.
